John M. Waters and Mudi Zhang to Shareholder


Norfolk, Va. (December 22, 2023)
– Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer, P.C. (WEC), a prominent Norfolk-based CPAmerica member firm, is pleased to announce the promotions of John M. Waters, CPA, MSA, and Mudi Zhang, CPA, MBT, to Shareholder effective January 1st, 2024. Angela Kerns, CPA, HCCP, leads the firm as Managing Shareholder.

John M. Waters joined the firm in 2009, bringing more than 15 years of expertise as a CPA and auditor to his new role as Shareholder at Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer, P.C. (WEC). John utilizes his background as a CPA and auditor to be a trusted advisor and relationship builder for his clients. His leadership extends to e:countable, a division of WEC that provides outsourced client accounting and advisory services. John serves clients in the attest and outsourced accounting space with a concentrated focus on not-for-profits, multi-family real estate, professional services, and other closely held businesses. His professional achievements have been acknowledged through various awards, including Virginia Business’ “Super CPA" and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (VSCPA) “Top 5 Under 35".

Outside of work, John volunteers his time with the VSCPA to drive change in the CPA profession and expand the accounting pipeline. John graduated from Old Dominion University with an undergraduate and master’s degree and enjoys cheering on the Monarchs.

Mudi Zhang, a talented tax advisor, joined WEC in 2015 and has rapidly ascended to her new role as Shareholder. With over 12 years of experience, Mudi has emerged as a trusted tax expert, specializing in business mergers and acquisitions, multi-state tax issues, and family wealth preservation. Her dedication to client relationships, coupled with her ability to navigate intricate tax structures and agreements, has positioned her as a pivotal resource for families and privately held businesses. Mudi is also the first remote employee to be promoted to Shareholder, signifying a major milestone for the organization's remote workforce. Mudi's fluency in Mandarin Chinese further enhances the firm's capability to serve a diverse clientele.

Outside of work, Mudi enjoys taking her beloved German Shepherd out for hikes with her husband.  She also enjoys reading, sketching, and exploring new restaurants during her free time.  Mudi graduated from the University of Southern California with both an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and master’s in Business Taxation.
