Hampton Roads is located in the southeastern corner of Virginia. Most of the area is also known as the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News MSA, the 33rd largest MSA in the nation.

In July 2007 Forbes magazine announced Virginia finished in the top 10 in four of the six main categories, including regulatory environment (1st), quality of its workforce (5th), overall quality of life (6th), and prospects for growth (8th).
In March 2007 Prevention magazine named Virginia Beach as the 10th most walkable of the country`s 100 most populated cities. The list was based on air quality, the percentage of people who walk to work, access to parks, number of athletic shoes sold, and weather.

Norfolk is home to the largest naval base in the world, Naval Station Norfolk.
The Norfolk Tides, a AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and the Norfolk Admirals, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, are based here.
Holland America and Carnival Cruise Line ships provide regular service to the Bahamas and the Caribbean from Norfolk’s Cruise Port.
Many festivals and fairs are held in Virginia Beach including Atlantic Coast Kite Festival, Beach Music Weekend, Annual Boardwalk Art Show and Festival, and the Holiday Parade at the Beach.
Festivals bring Norfolk to life each year with more than 65 public events including AFR’AM Fest; Norfolk’s International Azalea Festival and The Virginia Arts Festival in the spring; Harborfest and Town Point Jazz Festival in the summer; Children’s Festival and the Virginia Wine Festival in fall.
Virginia Beach is home to several nationally and internationally renowned marathons, half marathons and other racing events – including the Rock `n` Roll Half Marathon, Shamrock Marathon and Neptune Festival Sandman Triathlon.
Norfolk is the cultural capital of the state, home to the Chrysler Museum of Art, Broadway at Chrysler Hall, Harrison Opera House, d’ART Center, NorVa, Virginia Symphony, Virginia Opera, and Virginia Ballet Theater.
Virginia Beach is the host of many sporting events including the East Coast Surfing Championships, North American Sand Soccer Championships, and the Redskins Beach Blitz.
Within an hour of Norfolk are colonial attractions, major theme parks, museums, golf courses and beach resorts including First Landing State Park, the Jamestown Settlement, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg and Fort Monroe.
